Father Knows Best #9: Guard Your Heart
Guard Your Heart Without Locking It Away!

Sisters,
There was a time you trusted someone with your feelings — and instead of holding your heart with care, they dismissed them, mocked them, or used them against you.
It left you wondering if your heart was too soft for this world. Wondering if you are too sensitive.
So, for a while, you pulled back. You told yourself, “Never again.”
You started to confuse guarding your heart with locking it away.
But healing came when you realized this: God never asked you to build walls.
He asked you to build gates.
Here are some word of wisdom from Brother Percy on Guarding our Heart - from a father's heart to yours.
Dear Daughter,
Your heart is precious. It’s the wellspring of your life — your emotions, your hopes, your dreams, your love, your trust.
When you protect it, you’re not shutting people out forever; you’re learning how to let the right people in at the right time. There is a time and place for everything.
“Daughter, you’re not cold - for protecting your heart — you’re wise for respecting it. People who truly love you won’t demand entry; they’ll honor your gates.”
Not everyone deserves full access to your heart. And that doesn’t make you cold.
It makes you wise.
📖 Scriptural Anchor
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
— Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)
Lord,
Help my daughter guard her heart with both grace and strength.
Teach her when to open the gates and when to keep them closed.
Remind her that her heart is Yours first, and give her wisdom to protect the treasure You’ve placed within her.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
🪞 Reflection Prompt: Your Emotional Gatekeeper Checklist
This week, ask yourself:
It is very ok to test and see if people deserve to have access. Here are some questions to help build those boundaries.
Full Access — Who has consistently shown love, trustworthiness, and respect for my boundaries?
Limited Access — Who can be part of my life, but only with clear limits to protect my peace?
No Access — Who has proven unsafe, manipulative, or dishonoring of my emotions?
Write it down.
Pray over it.
And remember: your heart is a treasure. Treat it like one.

Bro. Percy
💬 Personal Insight from Me
For a long time, I thought guarding my heart meant keeping people out. But my father helped me see the truth: guarding doesn’t mean shutting down — it means choosing wisely. Truthfully, and sad to say, there are people out there wanting and willing to hurt you for no other reason than 'they are jealous' of you. However, on the flip side, there are people out there that want to love you and share their love with you!
Be yourself! Be kind, and true to yourself, but impart some of my father's straight froward wisdom and guard your heart with a gate.
Sis, you can still be tender, loving, warm-hearted, thoughtful, considerate, benevolent, gracious, sympathetic, empathetic, charitable and gentle, while protecting your peace. That balance is strength.
